The U7 Jr. Chargers played two very exciting games during Saturday’s pool play games, going 2-0 on a very warm and sunny day in New Berlin. Due to tiebreaker rules, with giving up more runs, they earned the second seed going into bracket play the next day. Bracket play was unfortunately canceled, however, due to inclement weather and poor field conditions.
In the first pool play game, they faced league foe, the Jr. Brookfield Central Lancers. Fueled by hot bats, a variety of pitchers, some seeing action on the mound for the first time this season, smart base running, and the energy from their devoted fans, they took down the Lancers 7-2. Despite the unusual May heat blast, the kids stayed focused and played hard and were able to come up with a big win. In the second game, they took on the host team, the New Berlin Pumas, who were undefeated yet this season, have strong overall pitching and well-disciplined batters. The Jr. Chargers had very strong pitching themselves and some key hits that put several runs on the board over the course of the game. Combined with some great fielding, teamwork and focus, the Jr. Chargers were able to hold off the surging Pumas during the last inning and ended up beating a very good ball club, 9-7.
