We will kick off our Skill Specific Camp Series with a double-header this year. On January 19th we will bring the coaches in from 9am-10:30am for our Coaches’ Pitching Clinic.  We will follow it up with our UW-Whitewater Fielding Camp. We will have 2 sessions:

  • U8-U10: 11am-12:30pm
  • U11-U14: 1:00pm-2:30pm

Coaches’ Pitching Clinic

Our Pitching Clinic will be led by Coach Johnny Arnold, our Director of Player Development. Arnold, a private pitching coach, former minor league player and a perennial Land O’ Lakes All-Star, has taught pitching for 25 years. He studied pitching mechanics and the training of pitchers under former MLB player, Mike Marshall 1974 CY Young Award winner. Marshall has his Doctorate in Kinesiology, and his dissertation was on the proper mechanics and development of the pitching arm.

Why for just Coaches?

Pitching is a very detailed and complex part of the game. With the season fast approaching we want to give the coaches an opportunity to learn what they should be focused on when it comes to pitching. Coaches will leave the camp with the knowledge to properly help our players develop as pitchers. The skills and drills shared in this camp are ones that can be implemented for all ages.

All of our coaches should attend to help gain a consistent baseline of pitching knowledge.

UW-Whitewater Fielding Camp

Steve Bartlein returns for his second year to lead our Fielding Camp. Bartlein enters his 3rd season as an assistant coach for the UW-Whitewater baseball team in 2019-20. In addition, Bartlein works as a Field Director for the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Academy, where he develops the camp itinerary and delivers baseball fundamental instruction.

Bartlein, a very well-decorated player as well, will be leading our players and coaches through a series of drills that will focus on the agility needed for any position, as well as some position specific work. This should lay the foundation for the development of our defensive play as we continue to take his lessons and incorporate them into our winter work in the Jr. Chargers Clubhouse.
