Pitching Camp for Coaches Wraps-Up 2019 Skills Specific Camp Series.

HJC Director of Player Development with hold our last camp in our Skill Specific Camp Series on April 14th from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Arnold, a private pitching coach, former minor league player and a perennial Land O’ Lakes All-Star, has taught pitching for 24 years. He studied pitching mechanics and the training of pitchers under former MLB player, Mike Marshall 1974 CY Young Award winner. Marshall has his Doctorate in Kinesiology, and his Dissertation was on the proper mechanics and development of the pitching arm. Marshall’s tutorage along with 37 years of pitching has led to the development of many young pitchers, many of which have come through the HJC program and have gone on to pitch in college.

Why for just Coaches?

You may be wondering why we have shifted this to a coach’s camp. Pitching is a very detailed and complex part of the game. With many of our camps we can quickly identify opportunities to make an impact quickly and young players can execute them. Pitching is a very different part of the game. With the season fast approaching we want to give the coaches an opportunity to learn what they should be focused on when it comes to pitching. We will work with the coaches on:

  • Common mechanical flaws that lead to injury or control issues
  • Drills to correct the mechanical flaws
  • When we add pitches other than the fastball
  • Proper grips and types of pitches
  • In-season arm care, and effective conditioning
  • Holding runners on base
  • Pitch Sequencing

We believe that if we can position our coaching staff to deliver better in season instruction around pitching, we will be better positioned to have an impactful player pitching camp next offseason. Look for this to come in the fall of 2019. This will give our players the full offseason to make adjustments.
